Recently, Support Services had a new client move into an Independent Supported Living (ISL) home. This person came to us from a Residential Care Facility. It was her dream to be able to live as independently as possible and to be part of her community. With her new home and support arrangements, she is learning to care for her own needs independently by doing her own laundry, helping to prepare meals, cleaning her home, and bathing on her own. She is also able to make her own choices on meal planning, shopping for her personal items, and the activities she wishes to participate in. She is enjoying new friendships and many more outings including Special Olympics flag football, attending the YMCA, and bowling. She recently celebrated her birthday for the first time with her very own birthday party. We are pleased with the progress she has made in the last few months. She is excited and tells everyone she meets how happy she is with her new home.
